The Policy

AMA’s International Cooperation

As the institution responsible for the agriculture and environment of a small and mountainous country with valuable national resources, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Water Management supports the idea of an eco-friendly, multi-functional and sustainable agriculture.

Our policy approach has become a role model for many European countries, not only for EU Member States but also for many countries who are working hard to set up the necessary administrative framework to join the EU one day. Our aim is to strongly support these future member states in particular with technical support on an expert level.

For this reason, in 2003 the implementation body of the Ministry, Agrarmarkt Austria (AMA) – the Austrian Paying Agency for Agriculture and Rural Development – established a Department for International Cooperation (IC-AMA) to systematically offer advice and support to candidate and potential candidate countries during their process of accession to the European Union.

AMA is a modern and efficient public administration with 17 years of experience, responsible for the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the EU in Austria.
The department for AMA’s international cooperation not only offers all the expertise of the Austrian Agricultural and Rural Development administration, but also organizes a range of workshops, seminars, Twinning and knowledge exchange projects.

AMA International Cooperation (IC-AMA) is a small and efficient team of experts in the field of agricultural administration dedicated to the successful organization and implementation of Twinning, Technical Assistance and other bilateral projects. With more than 10 years of experience and more than 30 successfully implemented projects - mainly Twinning projects - in 16 different European countries (of which meanwhile many are Member States of EU) we have learned to employ the perfect mix of professional expertise, project management skills and administrative flexibility to support you in every stage of agricultural administration. In addition we intensively cooperate with experienced experts from other EU countries, in particular from new Member States.
